As per the data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), the production of the automotive sector in May grew by 3.9% to 352,860 units.
General Motors produced 76,094 units, the most number of vehicles by any auto manufacturer in May this year , representing a growth of 20% Y-o-Y.
The second highest production in terms of numbers was by Nissan at 61,140 units. But these numbers showed a decrease of production by 24.5% from May last year.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) produced 50,728 vehicles, an increase of 0.9%; Volkswagen made 44,311 units, growth of 5.9% and Kia’ production recorded 24,458 vehicles, a growth of 19.5%.
Ford, Honda and Toyota produced 23,855, 20,070 and 18,170 units respectively. Honda’s production grew by 8.8% and that of Toyota grew by a massive 41.9%.
Due to the on-going tariff wars, Volkswagen, Nissan and Honda refused to give out their export numbers. Despite the lack of data AMIA estimated that more than 4 million units will be exported by Mexico in 2018.
