Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. announced that the group’s South Africa Factory in Ladysmith, South Africa has begun producing tyres for trucks and buses.
With the aim of ensuring a stable supply of truck and bus tyres for markets throughout Africa, SRI invested a total of ZAR970 million ($76.6 million) to install new, cutting-edge production facilities at our South Africa Factory.
Until now, Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Limited (SRSA) relied on imports to supply African markets with truck and bus tyres. Now, with the start of local production of truck and bus tyres, the company has gained the ability to ensure a stable supply for Africa.
Moving forward, the SRI Group will continue working to enhance their tyre sales business in Africa as part of our efforts to further grow and develop our overall global business.
The Ladysmith plant located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, has a capacity of producing 12,500 tyres a day. Spread over 180,000 sq, metres, the company expects to ramp up production of Bus and Truck tyres at this facility to 750 tyres a day by 2020.
